About Hymenoplasty & Hymen Restoration
Hymen Restoration is designed to repair a woman's hymen. Like Labiaplasty and Vaginal Tightening, the procedure is considered one of a few for women seeking an improvement in the aesthetic appearance of their genitalia.
Technically known as Hymenoplasty, the cosmetic surgical procedure can also be referred to as hymen tightening, Hymenorraphy, hymen repair surgery and hymen restoration. Hymen repair can be a very sensitive and coveted topic for many women. Toronto Cosmetic Clinic’s staff maintains every aspect of your privacy, making sure all details are always kept confidential.
Why Repair the Hymen?
Women seek to repair a broken hymen in order to restore their virginity, either for cultural, personal or religious reasons. Unfortunately since the hymen can be torn or broken from other activities other than sexual penetration this creates a problem for many women before their wedding night.
Women that have been raped, may consider Hymenoplasty for psychological reasons in order to help ease their mind.
Some women may also explore the option of Hymenoplasty, in order to “gift” their virginity to their partner (even after several years of marriage).
Regardless of the reason, it is always a personal choice, and our gynecological surgeon has vast amount of experience, always making sure to keep you feeling as comfortable as possible.
What Causes the Hymen to Break
Sexual intercourse is the most common form of causing the hymen to rupture, however, it may also be ruptured due to a cause not related to sexual activity. Tampon use, falling, horseback riding, and activities requiring extreme flexibility may also be a cause (e.g. Gymnastics). As a result, hymen restoration is the only procedure that will restore the hymen back to its natural looking state, before it was broken.
What is the Hymen & Its Purpose?
The hymen is a mucous membrane that is typically in the shape of a crescent, partially covering the bottom of the external opening of the vagina. The size of the intact hymen varies for each woman. Some females may have a hymen that covers the entire opening, while others may only be born with one that partially covers it. Though it is rare, some women are not even born with a hymen.
Currently, nobody really knows what the purpose of the hymen is. Some believe it may be to protect the vagina, acting as a barrier. Other animals also have hymens, including llamas and moles. It’s a biological mystery!
Hymen restoration is $2,800 plus tax. This is usually a standard fee regardless of when or how the hymen was broken. There is no need to be placed under general anesthesia, however if a patient needed to be this would increase the cost. If another procedure is added, such as labiaplasty or vaginoplasty, this would increase the total cost of your surgery, but decrease the hymen procedure portion of it. Keeps Price the Same
- When the hymen was broken
- Minimal Hymen Tear
- General Anesthesia (most of all patients opt for local anesthesia, for general anesthesia it is $1,000 additional)
The Hymen Repair Procedure at Toronto Cosmetic Clinic
A consultation is arranged with our patient consultant to discuss the procedure with you. During the consultative process, you will obtain information regarding the hymen, as well as receive complete instructions on how to prepare for Hymenoplasty and what to expect during and after the surgery. After consultation has been completed, a date for the procedure is set.
Performed on an outpatient basis at Toronto Cosmetic Clinic, the hymen repair procedure is about 30 minutes, depending on the individual. Local anesthesia is administered, so you are awake during the surgery but do not feel anything during the procedure.
In traditional Hymenoplasty, an experienced surgeon will stitch the edges of the remaining hymen together. By doing this, the hymen will grow back together as it heals. Women undergoing hymen restoration will also experience a bit of tightening of the vaginal walls. During Hymenoplasty at Toronto Cosmetic Clinic, a specialized laser is used to assist in surgery. This allows for a generally shorter procedure and faster recovery period.
After the surgery, you will be in the recovery room for up to one hour, where you will monitored by the nurses and then be able to go home shortly after.
Recovery after Hymen Repair Surgery
Patients can expect to return to work the day after surgery. Full recovery from hymen repair surgery can take up to 6 weeks, however the exact time depends on the individual.
Some discomfort, swelling, and a little bleeding are expected a few days following the surgery.
You will be prescribed a pain medication if needed, and also a topical antibiotic to be applied to the vaginal area.
You are encouraged to sit in Epsom Salt Sitz Baths, 2-3 times a week to promote faster healing. You will find this will be very soothing. Thong underwear, tampon use and pools are to be avoided after the procedure. Sexual intercourse will also need to be abstained at least 4 weeks after the surgery.
Your first follow up will be scheduled 2-3 weeks from the surgery.
