Belkyra™ And Kybella™

Non-Surgical Treatment for Double Chin

What is
BELKYRA™?

Known as KYBELLA™ in the United States, BELKYRA™ is an injectable drug that can reduce submental (under the chin) fat and redefine your jawline, effectively eliminating your double chin without surgery.

BELKYRA™ consists of a synthetic form of deoxycholic acid which is a naturally occurring substance in our bodies. When injected into a targeted area, it destroys fat cell membranes, allowing the fat inside to be released and naturally eliminated from the body.

BELKYRA™ is Health Canada approved, while KYBELLA™ is FDA approved, and both are safe for clinical cosmetic use. At TCC, BELKYRA™ is administered by our qualified injectionist.

Best Candidates

Maybe you’ve tried diet and exercise to lose weight, yet still have a double chin that just won’t seem to go away. Sometimes, a double chin has nothing to do with body weight, and is instead due to hormones or heredity. It can be frustrating because a double chin can make you look older, heavier, or unhealthier than you actually are.

Whatever the case, if you’re bothered by your double chin and nothing you’re doing on your own is working, BELKYRA™ may be the solution.

The best candidates for BELKYRA™ are women and men over the age of 18 who are in good health, and have realistic expectations about what BELKYRA™ treatments can do for you.

If you’re still not sure whether this is the right solution for you, schedule a FREE consultation with us, and we’ll be happy to answer all your questions to help you make your decision.

How are BELKYRA™ Injections
Performed?

Once your first BELKYRA™ treatment session is scheduled, we recommend that you limit your alcohol intake and stop taking anti-inflammatory medications at least one week prior to your appointment. This is not mandatory, but will help make for a smoother recovery.

While this is a non-invasive procedure and you can return to your daily activities immediately afterward, you may experience some redness, bruising and swelling for a few days afterward. We suggest that you schedule your treatment near the end of the week, or over the weekend.

When you arrive for your appointment, we'll take a few "before" photos so you'll be able to see the difference once the BELKYRA™ has had a chance to do its job.

Next, we'll apply either a topical analgesic, or give you a local anesthesia injection to make your BELKYRA™ treatment more comfortable. Then we'll place a transparent grid onto your chin that will act as a guide for your injectionist to follow to ensure accuracy, and increase the probability of smooth, balanced results.

The treatment only takes a few minutes, and you can be on your way! If you experience any discomfort, you can apply an ice pack for 10 to 15 minutes afterward. This will also help reduce swelling.

If you and your injectionist decided you would undergo more than one treatment, your next BELKYRA™ treatment appointment will be booked to take place four to six weeks after your initial treatment. On average, two to six sessions are required to achieve optimal results.

Recovery & Side Effects

BELKYRA™ and KYBELLA™ do come with a few side effects, as most cosmetic injectables do. Luckily, they're mild, and the possibility of developing severe complications is minimal.

The most common BELKYRA™side effect is swelling, which can last up to three days after your treatment. You may also experience some bruising, itchiness, redness, and general discomfort. Some patients also experience numbness or tenderness in the targeted area, in some cases for up to two months.

If your job requires you to deal with the public (or if you just don't want anyone to know you received a cosmetic treatment), you may want to schedule your treatment toward the end of your work week to give the redness, swelling and bruising a chance to dissipate before you go back to work.

BELKYRA™
vs Liposuction

To reduce submental (under the chin) fat, lot of people opt for BELKYRA™ over liposuction because they don’t want to undergo surgery, and they don’t want any downtime. Each procedure has its pros and cons.

With BELKYRA™, it can be several days or even weeks before you see any results. With liposuction, the results are immediate. In less than an hour, suctioned fat is gone forever. However, because liposuction is an invasive, surgical procedure, the recovery period is much longer.

In addition, if you get liposuction under your chin, you’ll have to wear a head wrap for one to two weeks to compress the tissue and keep swelling under control. Not only does this let the whole world know you got a cosmetic procedure, it can be uncomfortable and quite inconvenient.

Which procedure you get will depend on the results you want, whether you want to undergo surgery, and the current condition of your submental area. Our injectionist will discuss both options with you during your consultation, and help you make the choice that’s best for you.

BELKYRA™ and KYBELLA™
Question & Answer

  • Can BELKYRA™ be used on other areas of the body like the stomach?

No. At this point, BELKYRA™ and KYBELLA™ are approved only for submental fat reduction, and are not approved to be used anywhere else on the body. For fat reduction in other areas of the body, we offer CoolSculpting (non-surgical) or laser liposuction (surgical).

  • Who is not a good candidate for BELKYRA™?

Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding are not suitable candidates for any type of injection treatment. Also, patients who have severe liver or heart problems may not be able to undergo this treatment. Patients who have a lot of excess skin or lax neck muscles may be better candidates for a neck lift or neck liposuction.

  • Is BELKYRA™ safe?

When BELKYRA™ or KYBELLA™ is administered by an experienced injectionist, yes, it is safe. Complications can arise, just like with any cosmetic treatment. Always do your research and make sure you choose a qualified injectionist and a reputable clinic.

  • Does it hurt?

We’ll apply a topical numbing agent, or administer a tiny injection of local anesthesia to help make your BELKYRA™ treatment as comfortable as possible.

  • What are other non-surgical options to BELKYRA™ or KYBELLA™?

We also offer CoolSculpting, which is a non-invasive, non-surgical option for fat reduction. CoolSculpting does not use needles, but instead uses controlled cooling to “freeze” fat away, unlike BELKYRA™ which “melts” it away. Both are effective options for minimizing submental fat. Your consultation can help you decide what’s best for you.

  • Will BELKYRA™ help with my loose skin too?

No. BELKYRA™ is meant to target and destroy fat cells, but does not help with loose skin. To address loose skin concerns, we offer laser skin tightening. If you also want to tighten your neck muscles, a neck lift could be the best option for you.

  • Is there any downtime with BELKYRA™?

No. You can return to work and most daily activities immediately after your BELKYRA™ treatment. We do recommend you avoid very strenuous exercise for a few days afterward, though, as this may increase bruising and prolong swelling.
