Skincare in Your 20s
Fresh faced even after a hard night of partying – those of us in our 20s have glorious skin still resisting the effects of gravity and age.
Most of us are lucky enough to have supple and dewy skin that has only a bare trace of wrinkling, if any. Unfortunately, that coveted complexion won’t last forever. Even as early as our 20s, we’ve got to set a precedent.
Skincare is pretty easy during these years. All we have to do is smear on the sunblock to protect from the the damaging effects of UV exposure and load up on the antioxidants to keep those signs of aging at bay.
Remember: it’s all about prevention right now.
Beauty in your 20’s is all about prevention! How you treat your skin now, will determine its fate in the years to come.
The skin in your 20’s is at its peak! Its plump and firm with oodles of collagen and elastin, and Microdermabrasion is key to remove dead skin to reveal your young glow.
A common problem in the 20’s is acne. Many individuals strip their skin of its natural oils (by using harsh products) thinking this will deflect acne, however in turn this actually causes the sebaceous glands to compensate by over-producing oil which can lead to further break-outs. At Toronto Cosmetic Clinic, chemical peels and laser acne treatments, along with the right combination of at-home products can combat such a problem.
With regards to any acne scarring from the teenage years, MicroLaserPeel® and Fractional treatments are an effective way to resurface and smooth the texture of the skin.
Botox Cosmetic® Injections are a perfect soloution to prevent any lines and wrinkles from forming in the future. BOTOX® Cosmetic will stall the wrinkle formation of expression lines in the forehead, frown and eye area.
Speaking of prevention, always make sure you have a minimum SPF 30 at all times (even on cloudy days and in the winter) on your face, and any other areas that will be exposed to the sun! Keep in mind the damage you do now to your skin, will show later in the decades to come!
Skincare in Your 30s
So you’re 30. You might not feel any older, but your skin has started to change.Your collagen production starts to slow down and skin begins to thin, setting the stage for disaster.
Fortunately, the process is just starting for most of us, which means we’ve got the time (albeit not too much) and means to do something about delaying or slowing down the process. Step up your game – introduce Chemical Peel, Microdermabrasion, or Laser Skin Treatments to your regimen. There’s no need to do them often, but once or twice a month will probably help. Add a few more products to your daily skincare routine, like a night cream or vitamin-enriched serum.
You might want to start considering wrinkle treatments, like BOTOX® and JUVÉDERM®, as well. While you may not have serious creases right now, the effects of injectables tend to last longer with repeated treatments, which means keeping your face wrinkle-free longer.
Now on to the “dirty 30′s” as they call it.
This is the time when you start to see any damage (especially from the sun) to your skin that you have accumulated from your teen and early 20′s. Collagen and elastin fibers begin to break down and cell production starts to lag, so the skin is not as elastic, firm and plump. To help, there are several treatments available:
- IPL™ PhotoFacial - Essentially an IPL laser treatment or photo facial can targets sun-spots, uneven pigmentation, broken capillaries and spider veins.
- Dermal Fillers - Along with Botox® Cosmetic injections, dermal fillers will help to restore lost volume in the face, as fat cells begin to break-down from age.
- Affirm Anti-Aging - This is a great way to get introduced to laser treatments. The Affirm laser treatment, tightens pores and evens out the tone and texture of the skin to reduce fine lines and wrinkles
Cellulite can also start to be a concern. About 90% of women suffer from cellulite, no matter how thin they are. Cellulite actually is predispositioned in our genetics…so there is no way to ban it forever, but there are ways to reduce it significantly. Cellulite Endermologie™ treatments at Toronto Cosmetic Clinic, work by rolling and suctioning the fat that is trapped with-in the fibers of the skin to create a smooth, even texture. It is also a great way to improve lymphatic drainage and get rid of toxins from the body!
Don’t forget to keep skin protected from the elements by wearing a minimum SPF 30, exfoliate to remove dead skin and drink enough water to keep skin hydrated!

The Big 4-0. It’s inevitable now. We know with every day that passes, our skin gets thinner, saggier, and more wrinkly. We can’t escape the signs of aging.
We’ve got to become vigilant and fight back. Help stimulate the production of collagen (that all important part of the skin that is responsible for keeping it supple) and use products enriched with vitamins and retinoids. Laser skin tretaments may also help when done on a regular basis.
And remember to keep those pores clean by exfoliating about once or twice a week. Don’t do it too much, though, since it can easily irritate the skin and/or break weakened capillaries, leaving angry red blotches. If you’re uncomfortable exfoliating your own skin, get it professionally done. Yes, it’s that important!
Now is the time to concentrate on treating skin created from time, gravity and the sun.
To start, BOTOX® Cosmetic, Dermal Fillers and the Vampire Lift (Plasma -Rich- Platelet injection) are a great way to add volume, and minimize folds and wrinkles within the skin. The Vampire Lift can be done at any age to rejuvenate the skin, by enhancing the tone and texture. But, it is meant especially for “crepi” skin that can be found on the décolletage, neck and areas of constant movement found on the face.
Fractional Laser treatments and Laser Skin Resurfacing are a great way to also reformat the dermis of the skin. It works by rebuilding the collagen which will plump up the skin to fill in any fine lines and wrinkles. Depending on your skin type and the type of downtime (or no downtime) that you want to have, will determine which procedure is better suited for you.
Product wise, it is best to introduce a Retinol based (such as from ZO Skin Line) or hydroquinone based (such as from SkinTx) skin care line to help with any fine lines or hyperpigmentation. Make sure to also use a great eye cream and serum/cream for the face every single night…no matter how tired you are! There are many products to choose from, but at Toronto Cosmetic Clinic we will help you filter out the best one for you!

Okay. By now we’ve probably gotten used to seeing a few wrinkles and lines scattered across our face. Hey, we know it’s not the end of the world, even with those sunspots and enlarged pores. But it still doesn’t make it any easier to see our face get saggier and creases deeper.
Take a stance against time and gravity – start using those products that are designed for your age. You’ll find them laden with ingredients like retinoid (something we already are familiar with), copper peptides, and hyaluronic acid. And as our skin becomes weaker and less able to retain moisture, some of us may find moisturizers the most important product in our medicine cabinet.
Getting Older has it’s advantages, immense amount of wisdom and knowledge, along with more character on your face, reflecting past experience through-out life.
Along with gravity, hormonal changes start take their toll, the skin becomes drier as there is less oil production, so hydrating and exfoliating the skin are key. Remember drinking plenty of water is important. The skin is the largest organ we have in our body. When we neglect to drink enough water, our internal organs pull water from our skin to keep them working at full capacity. This in turn will dry out our skin. A great exfoliation product is ZO Exfoliating Polish along with keeping up with regular microdermabrasion treatments.
More spider veins and age spots will also start to appear. Laser vein treatments at Toronto Cosmetic Clinic are an effective way to remove the appearance of veins on the legs, hands, feet and face!
Keeping up with IPL™ PhotoFacial treatments will also reduce sun and age spots.
The skin becomes more lax and prone to excess folds and jowls, along with dropped contours. Surgeries are a great option to help correct loose and sagging skin. Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin, either above or below the eyes, along with any excess fat underneath the eyes. It is a fantastic procedure to give a more refreshed look. FaceLifts are also an option to turn back the aging clock.
Whatever your age may be, your skin is a reflection of your general state of health and requires tender care to stay healthy.
