Your lifestyle, diet and exercise are crucial factors in preparing your body for surgery, and facilitating recovery. It’s a mistake to think that it’s just surgery; undergoing a surgical procedure is an important decision that you have to make and you will need to change how and what you do everyday to accommodate it. It doesn’t matter what kind of cosmetic surgical procedure you’re going to be having: rhinoplasty, breast augmentation, liposuction or etc. What you do in the time before and after the surgery can make a huge impact in how your body handles the procedure and how and when optimal results appear.
We recommend that patients:
- Add beneficial vitamins and minerals to their diet about two weeks prior to surgery (only take those that have been recommended by your surgeon, and make sure to get approval for any other supplements before you start taking them). Nutritional deficiencies can be an impediment in proper recovery.
- Stop smoking at least two weeks before and a few weeks after so that your body can better repair wounds
- Perform gentle exercises, as recommended by your surgeon, after surgery. Do not go overboard, and do only as much as has been directed
All patients will receive full pre and post operative instructions well before their surgery so that they can prepare their body and improve the rate of recovery.
Follow them closely!
