When do the results of labiaplasty appear?
Labiaplasty is a type of vaginoplasty that improves the aesthetic appearance of female genitalia. The invasive surgery involves a reduction of the labial lips, typically of the labia minora. They are reshaped, shortened, made thinner or asymmetry is corrected. Therefore, the procedure can also be referred to as labial reduction or labial beautification. An alternate spelling is labioplasty.
Most seek labial beautification surgery as a solution to the unattractive appearance of long, thick and hanging labia. This can also cause discomfort during sexual activity, and even when they wear some types of clothes.
There are several reasons. While it can be genetic, stretching of the labial lips may be caused by sexual activities, childbirth, aging and some physical activities. It is generally not an indication of an underlying health concern.
Those who are mentally stable, have realistic expectations and goals of the labial reduction procedure, and are in relatively good health. Age is not an important consideration. Many women who undergo labiaplasty do so to fight the signs of aging and are therefore in their latter years.
Since labial reduction typically requires incisions to be made, scarring will result. However, the placement of incisions are made in the natural folds and creases of the genital area, so any scars will be very well hidden. If you follow your cosmetic surgeon's post-operative instructions, the scar should eventually fade into a thin and barely noticeable line.
After being placed under anaesthesia, a number of tiny incisions are made in the genital area so that the cosmetic surgeon may remove the desired amount of excess tissue. Then, sutures are used to close the incisions and the area is dressed.
The length of the procedure depends on the extent of correction and whether it is performed simultaneously with another procedure. For many women, other vaginoplasty procedures are desired to achieve a complete rejuvenation and beautification of the area.
Some swelling may occur, along with minor bruising and pain. Expect any swelling and bruising to gradually subside over a couple of weeks, while any pain normally subsides within a couple of days. Pain can be alleviated with medication prescribed by your cosmetic surgeon.
Sutures will gradually dissolve.
A shower can be taken 24 hours after labiaplasty, but follow bathing instructions outlined by your cosmetic surgeon closely.
You may be asked to wear a sanitary napkin for light flow days for about a week and to refrain from excessive physical exertion and sexual activity in the area for up to a month or two.
To help with swelling, a cold compress can be applied to the area.
If it is not physically strenuous, within a day or two.
Because the size of the labia is reduced, the appearance of the genital area will be improved. An increase in sensation during sexual activity is experienced and clothes that once were a source of discomfort will no longer be uncomfortable to wear.
.
While a difference is noticeable within a relatively short time, the optimal results of labiaplasty typically appear within a few months.
