Tell me more about labiaplasty.
Labiaplasty is a type of vaginoplasty that improves the aesthetic appearance of female genitalia. The invasive surgery involves a reduction of the labial lips, typically of the labia minora. They are reshaped, shortened, made thinner or asymmetry is corrected. Therefore, the procedure can also be referred to as labial reduction or labial beautification. An alternate spelling is labioplasty.
Why would a woman want to undergo labial beautification surgery?
Most seek labial beautification surgery as a solution to the unattractive appearance of long, thick and hanging labia. This can also cause discomfort during sexual activity, and even when they wear some types of clothes.
What causes the lips of the labia minora to protrude?
There are several reasons. While it can be genetic, stretching of the labial lips may be caused by sexual activities, childbirth, aging and some physical activities. It is generally not an indication of an underlying health concern.
What makes an individual a good candidate for labiaplasty at Toronto Cosmetic Clinic?
Those who are mentally stable, have realistic expectations and goals of the labial reduction procedure, and are in relatively good health. Age is not an important consideration. Many women who undergo labiaplasty do so to fight the signs of aging and are therefore in their latter years.
Tell me more about the actual labia reduction surgery.
After being placed under anaesthesia, the physician uses proprietary laser techniques to sculpt the labia.
The length of the procedure depends on the extent of correction and whether it is performed simultaneously with another procedure. For many women, other vaginoplasty procedures are desired to achieve a complete rejuvenation and beautification of the area.
What should I expect following labial reduction surgery?
Some swelling may occur, along with minor bruising and pain. Expect any swelling and bruising to gradually subside over a couple of weeks, while any pain normally subsides within a couple of days. Pain can be alleviated with medication prescribed by your physician.
A shower can be taken 24 hours after labiaplasty, but follow bathing instructions outlined by your physician closely.
What can I do to help recovery?
You may be asked to wear a sanitary napkin for light flow days for about a week and to refrain from excessive physical exertion and sexual activity in the area for up to a month or two.
To help with swelling, a cold compress can be applied to the area.
When will I be able to return to work?
If it is not physically strenuous, within a day or two.
What are the results of labial reduction at Toronto Cosmetic Clinic?
Because the size of the labia is reduced, the appearance of the genital area will be improved. An increase in sensation during sexual activity is experienced and clothes that once were a source of discomfort will no longer be uncomfortable to wear.
When do the results of labiaplasty appear?
While a difference is noticeable within a relatively short time, the optimal results of labiaplasty typically appear within a few months. |
