Tell me more about Photorejuvenation.

Also known as photofacial and photo facial rejuvenation, photorejuvenation is a nonsurgical cosmetic treatment for the skin. Skin that has been damaged by the signs of aging, sun exposure, and other trauma can be treated with photorejuvenation at Toronto Cosmetic Clinic to restore its youthfulness.

What problems can be treated with photorejuvenation at Toronto Cosmetic Clinic?

If your skin is plagued with wrinkles, blemishes, acne, and/or its texture is thick and rough, you may benefit from photorejuvenation. The treatment is designed to target the upper layers of the skin, therefore any aesthetic problem that affects these layers can generally be treated. Photorejuvenation can also promote the growth of collagen, thereby tightening and strengthening the skin.

At Toronto Cosmetic Clinic, some of the most common problems our patients target with photorejuvenation include fine wrinkles and blemishes/hyperpigmentation.

What problems cannot be treated with photorejuvenation at Toronto Cosmetic Clinic?

Photorejuvenation is not suitable for deep wrinkles and creases which go beyond the upper layers of the skin. Although their appearance may be reduced with a series of treatments, it is not designed for such problems. Rather, photorejuvenation is best for fine wrinkles and lines, hyperpigmentation, acne and light scarring.

Your cosmetic surgeon may recommend another course of treatment, such as a chemical peel, laser resurfacing, or microdermabrasion.

How do I find out more? How do I start?

Like all of the surgical and nonsurgical treatments at Toronto Cosmetic Clinic, a consultation with an experienced and knowledgeable medical professional is required before proceeding with your preferred procedure. This is to ensure that the problem you'd like to resolve is treated with the best possible solution for your situation. Consultation is free, and even if you don't want to start right away, you can still come in to see our patient consultant to find out more. During the appointment, you may even be provided with alternative treatments that may be more suitable for your body.

What happens during the procedure?

During the photorejuvenation procedure, the Sciton Profile™ BBL™ (Broadband Light ) laser or The StarLux® 500 fitted with the The LuxG™ handpiece is used to emit pulses of light directed at the target area to gently heat the top layers of the skin. These layers are ablated so that the fresh layers underneath may be revealed. You will be asked to wear special eye protection.

A topical anesthetic may be applied to the targeted area prior to the procedure in order to alleviate discomfort.

What happens after the procedure?

Photorejuvenation is a relatively gentle cosmetic procedure. However, because the skin is exposed to intense light, the skin will experience some level of redness or splotchiness. An ointment may be applied to help with healing. The skin will also be sensitive to sun exposure. As a result, it is vital to protect it with a good sunblock up to a year following a treatment session.

Who can't undergo photorejuvenation?

It is highly recommended that those with active skin infections and who experience abnormal scarring seek another course of treatment. Also, those with skin that has been damaged by recent sun exposure may need to postpone their treatment for a couple weeks until the skin is healed.

Please consult a cosmetic surgeon or medical professional for more information.
