General Information About Nose Surgery

Nose surgery, also known as rhinoplasty, is a surgical procedure that can dramatically improve the appearance of your nose, even with the slightest of alterations. A number of procedures can be performed, including decreasing or increasing the size of your nose, reshaping the tip, or even reducing its width.

You can discuss the desired shape of your nose with a physician, who will in turn evaluate the present structure of your nose, as well as your general health. Because rhinoplasty is invasive, requiring some type of anesthesia, patients must be in relatively good mental and physical health prior to surgery. Your physician may also tell you to stop smoking and drinking alcohol a couple of weeks before. All of these factors can contribute to a significant improvement on how your body reacts to treatment, and how it heals.

If your nose is sunburnt or irritated, the surgery may be postponed for your safety.

How Long Is Nose Surgery?

The nose surgery procedure is performed on an outpatient basis, meaning your stay in the surgical centre will be brief. You'll undergo rhinoplasty surgery, stay for a while under observation, then go home. However, should you require more extensive surgery, which may be in conjunction with other treatment, your stay could be overnight or even a couple of days.

The actual nose surgery procedure is one to three hours, but can be longer.

Healing After Nose Surgery

Like many other types of cosmetic surgical procedures, patients recovering from nose surgery will not be able to see the true results immediately after surgery. Your face may be puffy, swollen, or bruised. It can be scary to look at, but just remember that it's normal and a vital part of the healing process. If you experience discomfort, such as a nose or headache, the pain medication your physician prescribed should be taken.

You won't be able to see much of your new nose, as it will most likely be covered in dressings and supported with a splint. However, all of this will be removed in one to two weeks, during which discomfort and brusing will subside. Swelling and puffiness may take longer, gradually disappearing to reveal your beautiful new nose!
