UltraShape® is based on a high tech way of destroying fat, without the pain associated with other cosmetic treatments. The UltraShape® transducer converts electrical energy into focused therapeutic ultrasound energy. This converted energy is then delivered at a specific depth to disrupt the membranes of fat cells in the subcutaneous fat layer of a targeted area. This disperses the contents of the fat cells, which are mainly triglycerides, into the surrounding fluids which carry them away to be naturally processed by the body's physiological systems. Clinical studies have shown that triglycerides released do not significantly accumulate in the blood or liver.
Designed to focus on the abdomen, love handles, hips and thighs, only unwanted fat cells are targeted by mechanical, not thermal, energy, so surrounding tissues and blood vessels remain unharmed. In addition, the safeness and effectiveness of the device is further ensured by an integrated acoustic contact sensor. There are two models of the UltraShape® device currently used by medical clinics. Toronto Cosmetic Clinic uses the newest model, the Contour I Ver. 2 System. This is known as the most advanced noninvasive fat reduction technology available today. Advanced tracking and guidance software enables the system to achieve smooth and uniform results, something that liposuction sometimes cannot. This software allows the targeted area to be displayed in 3D on a computer screen, so that the medical professional or technician performing the procedure can see the areas that should be treated. The system also prevents the treatment of any area that has already been exposed or should not be treated. A single session typically ranges from 60 to 90 minutes, depending on factors such as the individual and the number/size of areas on the body targeted.

All of those mundane toning exercises we do, like squats, sit ups, and lunges, have been designed for areas on the body most susceptible to fat: the thighs, abdomen, love handles, and hips. In fat, there are two main receptors which are responsible for the presence or disintegration of fat cells: alpha and beta. Alpha tells fat cells to stay put while beta receptors tell them to break down so that they can be used as energy. Hormonal processes are responsible for sparking these receptors into action. Because these problem areas boast more alpha than beta receptors, the fat does not break down as easily. Limited blood circulation also hinders disintegration.
And as a woman, stubborn fat is even more so because it's estrogen (the "female" hormone) that's mainly blamed for fat production. Basically, estrogen makes fat and fat makes estrogen. And although a great exercise regimen and a greater diet are vital for a healthy lifestyle, it makes fighting against stubborn fat particularly hard for the fairer sex.
