The incisions made during a breast lift at Toronto Cosmetic Clinic are just as crucial to the final outcome of the procedure as is the individual's general health. The breast lift, technically known as mastopexy, is a cosmetic procedure meant to deal with breasts that sag due to an individual's age or from breast-feeding. This is also known as breast ptosis.
Incisions: The Wise Pattern
The most typical type of incision is the anchor-shaped incision. This is a full breast lift. It may technically be known as the "Wise pattern". An incision is made around the areola, then a vertical one is made extending down to the base of the breast, following its natural curve.

The advantage of this incision is that it provides the maximum adjustment possible to the shape of the breast.
Modified Mastopexy
For individuals with smaller breasts or where less adjustment is necessary, there exist "modified" procedures. These involve less extensive incisions during a breast lift at Toronto Cosmetic Clinic.
As expected, with fewer incisions, the advantage of these modified procedures is that there is a much lower risk of scarring. However, these techniques are not suitable for all women.

One example of a "modified" procedure is concentric mastopexy, also known as the "doughnut" incision. Circular incisions are made around the areola so that a doughnut-shaped portion of excess skin can be removed. Then, the incision is sutured. The size of the areola may be reduced.

More correction is provided by the "lollipop" technique. Incisions for the lollipop technique are made around the areola and one extending vertically downwards to the inframammary fold. A short horizontal incision may or may not be made horizontally in the fold.
Again, the nature of the incisions will depend a great deal upon the individual themselves, and what their expectations are. For this reason, a full consultation with a qualified medical professional is highly recommended before considering mastopexy. They will be able to provide you with a realistic set of expectations regarding the outcome of your potential breast lift.
