How to Find Shoes that Suit Your Leg Type

Whether you have cankles, overly-long legs, big calves, or legs that are too short, you can disguise your imperfections by wearing shoes that take attention away from your problem areas and accentuate your best features. but Here is some advice about what kind of footwear works best for specific leg types.

Fat Ankles

Women with fat ankles, also known as cankles, have ankles and calves that are indistinguishable from one another. Liposuction can help fat ankles, but choosing the right shoe may also help to a certain extent. Women with cankles should avoid wearing shoes with straps because they accentuate the ankle area. Stilettos or ballet flats that don’t have ties or buckles in the ankle area are ideal. Boots are also a good choice. Knee-length boots create a seamless line from calf to toe that camouflages the appearance of cankles while ankle-length boots disguise in style. Avoid shoes in bright colors and opt for shoes in neutral colors instead.

Long Legs

Most people consider long legs a blessing, but they can look out of proportion unless you balance your figure out with the appropriate type of footwear. If you have long legs and big calves, heels can be very flattering because they make your legs look toned and tapered. Ballerina flats can effectively knock a couple centimeters off the appearance of each leg. If you have very thin ankles and long legs, shoes with straps can balance out your figure.

Large Calves

Heels are very flattering for women with large calves. Shoes with heels of an inch or more add the appearance of length to your legs. Flats can also work but no matter what type of shoe you choose, make sure the heel is as chunky as possible. Skinny heels tend to accentuate big calves. Pointy-toed shoes are better than round-toed shoes and thong sandals draw attention away from the calves, accentuating bare feet while providing the illusion of length. Boots are great as long as you pick the right style. Knee-high boots that are fitted around the ankle and have high heels look flattering because they add length.

Short Legs

Unfortunately, not everyone is born with long legs like a supermodel but the right choice in shoes can go a long way in giving your legs the illusion of length. If leg legthening surgery isn't your style, check out flesh-colored shoes to give your legs and feet a seamless appearance. Shoes with pointed toes also give your legs a lengthier appearance while square-toes and round-toes should be avoided since they have the opposite effect. Opt for open-toed or open-back shoes with a higher heel and avoid closed-toes. As a matter of fact, flats should be avoided altogether because they can make your legs look shorter and chunkier.
