A Bad Boob Job

In North America alone, over hundreds of thousands of women underwent boob jobs last year. The popularity of the surgery is probably because the results acquired are considered to be some of the most rewarding of any procedure. The vast majority of women who have gotten implants through breast enhancement surgery are happy with the results, with their expectations fufilled, and in many cases, exceeded.

However, there are women out there who didn't get the results they wanted and are unhappy about it. Most of us have seen these unsettling pictures of, what we refer to as, "When Boob Jobs Go Wrong". Maybe we even know a person close to us who's been disappointed or devastated by one.

The Markings of a Bad Boob Job

Once a woman has recovered from breast augmentation, it's usually pretty obvious what the results of a bad boob job look like.

Ever seen breasts that are wrinkly or rippling in places, especially near the arm, along the bottom of the breasts, or near the cleavage? That's a sure sign they've had breast augmentation. While “wrinkling” could be the result of thin skin or an insufficient amount of tissue in the breast area prior to surgery, it may also be caused by having chosen implants with a heavily textured shell or that have not been filled properly (mostly for saline implants). Some ways to prevent wrinkling are choosing a smaller implant if you are thinner and don't have much breast tissue, opting for submuscular placement, deciding on cohesive gel rather than saline, and selecting non-textured shells. Make sure to discuss your preferences with your cosmetic surgeon before making a final decision.

Placement

Another marking of a bad boob job is placement. If the breasts are set far apart from each other, it could adversely affect the appearance of cleavage. If they are placed too low or too high, they will look abnormal. Make sure your cosmetic surgeon gives you a basic idea of where the implants will be placed during the consultative process and what the final outcome will look like. And don't be shy; let them know if you don't agree with the new positioning!

Unfortunately, the result of breast augmentation performed by even the best surgeon using the best implants isn't for life; implants need to be changed every 10-15 years unless otherwise noted by the manufacturer and cosmetic surgeon. If they aren't replaced, they may leak, shift over time, and become asymmetrical. So be prepared for subsequent procedures, which may be a good thing since expectations and desires usually change as we age.

What's a Good Boob Job?

The results of a breast augmentation procedure that are considered successful depends on many factors. Usually, the best boob jobs are those that increase the size of the breasts to the desired amount and still look as if they're a natural blessing. Needless to say, the opinion of the cosmetic surgeon performing surgery is important as well. But more importantly is the opinion of the patient themselves. If they think the results are good, then it should be all that matters. As with any elective surgery, the individual considering it should carefully review resources available on the topic to make an informed decision that they will be comfortable living with.

Bad boob jobs are a waste of time, money, and may threaten the mental or physical state of the victim. So reduce the risk. Choose your cosmetic surgeon wisely, have the right mindset, and follow your surgeon's instructions before and after the procedure.
