Hollywood celebrities have been turning to physicians to help them with their careers and looks for years. Generally, results are subtle and natural looking (before they go overboard!).

Some Hollywood types do everything together, even cosmetic surgery. Take Kiss bassist and entrepreneur, Gene Simmons, and his long time partner and former playmate, Shannon Tweed, as an example. Both got facelifts and Tweed also got a lower eyelid adjustment last November. The cosmetic surgical procedures were filmed for Simmons' reality show 'Family Jewels', and aired on the first episode of the second season.

A facelift is a common procedure to treat severe facial skin sagging and greatly improve a patient's appearance . There are many variations of the surgery which can include a deep plane or composite lift, SMAS lift, subperiosteal or skin lift, feather or thread lift, and mid facelift. The procedure usually starts with an incision behind the hairline that extends downward along the natural creases of the skin so that resulting scars are better hidden. The skin and muscles of the face are then separated from the deeper muscle tissue. When the excess skin has been tightened or removed, the skin is put back in place and sutured. The laser light fragments the ink particles, which are naturally absorbed by the skin over several weeks. Patients can ask for a topical anesthetic to allay the slight sting from the laser.

We've all heard the saying about art imitating life. Well, at least in the case of Kim Fields whose credits include television shows/series The Facts of Life, Roots, and Hidden Blessings, that could not be more true.

All those procedures were done on the wife of rocker Ozzie Osborne after her stomach stapling left her with sagging skin that only cosmetic surgery could remedy.

The brow lift is a cosmetic surgical procedure that removes wrinkles, creases and furrows in the forehead area. Offending muscles are removed or adjusted so results last longer. During the invasive procedure, the incision itself follows premarked lines. These begin at the ears and run along the top of the forehead just a few centimeters behind the hairline. The forehead skin is then generally pulled down to the area just over the eyebrows. This allows the physician access to the broad band of tissue that causes the creases, the frontalis and the corrugators, which are the vertical muscles that lie behind the middle of the brow. These draw the brow inwards and are responsible for vertical lines. Excess skin and tissue is trimmed during the operation and the incision is closed with either sutures or metal clips.

Endoscopy, which has been used for years in other procedures like knee surgery, gall bladder removal, and tubal ligation, has been introduced recently into a number of cosmetic surgery procedures like the brow lift. Three or four incisions allow the endoscopic probe (a hollow tube with a camera) and other instruments to be inserted. The forehead skin and eyebrows are elevated for this procedure, and miniscrews are inserted to support the eyebrows that have been reattached at a higher level. These screws are removed two weeks later.
