What is The Food and Drug Administration?

The Food and Drug Administration is an organization of the US government's Department of Health and Human Services. The Federal Food and Drugs Act, passed in 1906, marked the beginning of the FDA as we know it today. Committed to the safety of public health, any product, such as medicine, medical devices, food, cosmetics, or ones that emit radiation, are assessed by the FDA in order to be approved for public human and animal consumption. All products must meet standards set by the FDA.

Within the FDA, there are several branches all which are dedicated to a specific aspect of public health. These branches, or offices, are the following: the Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research (CBER), the Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH), the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER), the Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN), the Center for Veterinary Medicine (CVM), the National Center for Toxicological Research (NCTR), the Office of the Commissioner (OC), and the Office of Regulatory Affairs (ORA). The letters in the brackets following each are their respective acronyms.

The FDA approved BOTOX® Cosmetic in 2002 to treat glabellar lines.

What is Health Canada?

In Canada, public safety is protected by the federal department, Health Canada. Similar to the FDA, Health Canada regulates and approves products meant for public consumption and is organised into a number of branches, laboratories, and offices. It is also responsible for the advancement of public health through research, conducted or supported by their laboratories.

A year before the FDA, Health Canada approved BOTOX® Cosmetic in 2001 for the treatment of glabellar lines.

Thousands of people across Canada and the US have experienced the positive effects of BOTOX® Cosmetic. For BOTOX® Cosmetic injections in Toronto, contact Toronto Cosmetic Clinic at 416-221-5554.
