An alternative to the Lyra Nd: YAG and StarLux 500 lasers used during the laser hair removal procedure is the Profile laser, manufactured by American based medical device manufacturer Sciton.
The Sciton Profile laser features Broadband Light Source, which allows the device to emit a single pulse measured to have the widest width range in the industry today. In addition, each pulse is delivered faster than other lasers in measurements from 400 to 1400(nm). As a result, larger areas can be treated even faster than before. The Sciton is not recommended to treat the sensitive area near the eyes because of its ability to treat larger areas. For smaller areas that require more precision, the StarLux 500 is recommended instead.
To reduce discomfort during treatment, the Sciton has been created with a powerful skin cooling component that allows an area to remain at a comfortable temperature despite being exposed to the intense light emitted by the device. This allows the area targeted to be exposed to higher energy, thereby increasing the ability to destroy hair follicles in its growth stage.
Each procedure is tailored to the individual patient. The Sciton will be set according to your skin and hair type.
The Sciton laser has also been designed for other purposes. It is utilized during the photofacial rejuvenation procedure to eliminate fine lines, Rosacea, some scars and discolourations of the skin.
Side effects related to laser hair removal utilizing the Sciton BBL include those related to other laser hair removal devices. These include redness and some swelling around the hair follicles.
