Are the effects permanent?
A facelift is cosmetic surgical procedure that “lifts” the skin on the face. This eliminates sagging skin and can also tighten underlying tissue and muscles as well as remove excess fat. A facelift (also spelled face lift) is also known as rhytidectomy.
Facelifts are for men and women who are dissatisfied with their appearance because of sagging skin on their face. This cosmetic surgical procedure has been designed to minimize signs of aging that adversely affect our aesthetic apperance. By achieving these results and rejuvenating facial contours, self esteem and confidence are boosted.
Rhytidectomy is not designed to improve finer wrinkles and creases on the face. There are several other alternatives that are more suitable to target this problem.
Ideal candidates for a facelift are those who have realistic expectations of the procedure and are in relatively good mental and physical health. The best results are achieved on those with a well-defined bone structure and whose facial skin still retains some elasticity despite sagging.
First, you will have an initial consultation with a medical professional at Toronto Cosmetic Clinic to determine whether a facelift is suitable for you. At that time, you will also discuss all of the options to achieve the results you desire. These options may include injectable fillers, laser skin tightening, and other invasive or non-invasive cosmetic treatments.
Following this initial consultation, a second consultation will be arranged with the physician scheduled to perform the procedure if you decide to go ahead with it. Your health will be assessed and you will further discuss the finer points of the procedure that will be performed for your individual situation. Then, you will undergo surgery and have a number of follow-up appointments to monitor your progress.
A facelift can be performed under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation. The most suitable option depends on the individual and the extent of correction. You will discuss the pros and cons of both with your anesthesiologist and cosmetic surgeon prior to the procedure.
This depends on the extent of correction desired. Skin may be removed and the muscles may be tightened to achieve a more youthful appearance. A fat transfer may also be required to fill out contours.
Fatty deposits from the neck and chin may also be removed to eliminate jowls.
Any surgery has its own set of risks. Although are rare, some risks may include bleeding, nerve damage, and infection. Following your cosmetic surgeon's pre and post operative instructions will dramatically reduce the possibility of risks occuring.
During recovery, you may experience numbness on the face, particularly around the ear. Bruising and swelling may also occur, accompanied by some discomfort, however both are considered temporary.
Healing is gradual, and it may take up to 6 months to see the true results of your facelift. That doesn't mean you can't go back to work or resume normal activities within that time, though. You can expect to return to work and resume normal activities within 2 weeks following surgery. Your cosmetic surgeon may advise you to refrain from strenuous activities for a longer period to ensure proper recovery.
The results from a facelift are permanent, however, factors such as the signs of aging and gravity will have an adverse effect.
