Collagen is a fibrous protein responsible for elasticity and strength of the skin. With age, the collagen in our skin weakens to produce wrinkles and creases. The skin begins to sag and bags develop.
Collagen with Zyderm® and Zyplast® Collagen Implants
Since the early 1980s, Zyderm® and Zyplast® collagen implants have been setting the standard for the successful treatment of wrinkles and lines with purified bovine (cow) collagen and lidocaine. Immediately following a procedure, patients can apply makeup and return to their normal routine.
There are two types of collagen implants in the Zyderm® line. Zyderm 1 is normally reserved for finer lines, wrinkles and shallow scars, as well as worry lines, crows' feet and nasolabial lines. For moderate lines, wrinkles and scars, Zyderm 2 is used.
In cases of more pronounced lines, furrows and scars, lip border definition, nasolabial folds, marionette lines and in target areas where the skin is thicker, treatment utilizes Zyplast®. Before any treatment with Zyderm® and Zyplast® collagen implants, a skin sensitivity test is required to complete four weeks prior to a procedure.
