Recovering from breast augmentation surgery at Toronto Cosmetic Clinic may be the last thing on your mind when considering undergoing the procedure. However, instead of being an afterthought, it should fall amongst the things first and foremost in your mind when making your decision. Ultimately, a proper rest and recovery is what will help ensure that you achieve the results you desire. In addition, you'll be in a better position to properly deal with any complications that may arise from the surgery itself.
Recovering from breast augmentation surgery is affected by many factors. These can include the following: whether a local or general anesthetic is used to perform the procedure, type of implant, type of incision made, placement of the implant, and your general physical condition. While this may all sound intimidating, postoperative recovery is not quite that complicated a process. What follows are a few things to help you along your way.
First is an understanding that the procedure involves actual surgery. You'll need to consult your cosmetic surgeon at Toronto Cosmetic Clinic beforehand regarding appropriate treatment for possible pain and/or nausea after the fact. In addition, you may want to discuss an initial estimate of the length of time required for rest and recovery after the breast augmentation procedure. This usually ranges from 3 to 7 days.
During the recovery period, you may encounter pain, swelling, bruising, and tenderness. It's important to remember that these are the norm with almost any kind of surgery. These conditions may last for about one week in most cases. Regarding scarring: it usually heals over time. When properly cared for, scars tend to fade into a thin pale line that is barely visible.
Prescribed medication can help with pain and/or nausea.
Avoid taking a bath or allowing the incision sites to soak in water for approximately 6 weeks following surgery. This reduces the risk of bacterial infection.
Second, during the healing process, you may require a special bra, compression bandage or jogging bra for extra support. Do not take off the compression garment unless instructed to do so.
In addition, your cosmetic surgeon may also prescribe or recommend breast massage exercises. These exercises should be performed according to their directions in order to reduce swelling in the area.
Third, you should avoid any physical activity that will raise your pulse and/or blood pressure for a few weeks. If in doubt, don't. Otherwise, you should simply ask your cosmetic surgeon about it. Avoid lifting heavy things for about two weeks and reaching for things suddenly.
You should avoid all drinking and smoking. The latter is the case for anyone recovering from any type of surgery, not only breast augmentation, because it can affect your body's ability to heal. However, drinking plenty of fluids (non-alcoholic, of course!) will help with healing.
Fourth, discuss with your cosmetic surgeon at Toronto Cosmetic Clinic if you are on any type of medication. Certain kinds of medication, like anticoagulants, can also affect your body's ability to heal.
Finally, you should discuss with your cosmetic surgeon the following: appointments for follow-up examinations, and any additional things to avoid or beware of during your recovery that may be specific to you. After all, breast augmentation surgery is only the first step. The second is your full and proper recovery in order to achieve what you originally intended.
