Those Who Shouldn't Use BOTOX® Cosmetic

 In an initial consultation for BOTOX® Cosmetic with a patient consultant at Toronto Cosmetic Clinic, patients will be assessed for their compatibility with the pharmaceutical. Though there may be fewer restrictions when compared to other cosmetic procedures, BOTOX® Cosmetic is not recommended for those who have or are in particular conditions. These conditions include the following:

Women who are pregnant should not be treated with BOTOX® Cosmetic.

Women who are nursing should avoid undergoing BOTOX® Cosmetic injections, as there may be a risk of passing the drug through breast milk.

Research is inconclusive on the relationship between BOTOX® Cosmetic injections and cardiovascular disease.

Those with a neuromuscular disease, such as Lambert-Eaton myasthenic syndrome, should not receive treatment with BOTOX® Cosmetic at Toronto Cosmetic Clinic. Doing so can cause serious damage to muscles and worsen the state of the disease.

If there is a skin infection at the proposed injection site, treatment may be postponed until it clears.

During consultation with a patient consultant at Toronto Cosmetic Clinic, it is recommended that patients learn about the ingredients in the formulation of BOTOX® Cosmetic. If you are allergic to any ingredient in the drug, or have had a negative reaction to other similar products such as Myobloc® or Dysport™, do not undergo treatment. You should also tell our patient consultant if you suffer from problems with bleeding, breathing, swallowing and droopy eyelids, as these conditions may increase the occurrence of negative side effects.

Risks of adverse side effects will increase for those patients who have an inflammation of the skin or muscular atrophy in the target area. Extra care will be taken or alternative treatment may be recommended.

For some, receiving a BOTOX® Cosmetic injection may result in becoming immune to the drug. Antibodies may form, reducing its effectiveness. Therefore, it is imperative that patients choose a reputable clinic that is authorized to administer BOTOX®, such as Toronto Cosmetic Clinic.

As a result, the occurrence of such temporary side effects as droopy eyelids (ptosis), double or blurred vision, and trouble breathing within the first week following treatment are considered rare, since the placement of the injection and the amount injected (factors that generally contribute to these complications) will be highly controlled. Weakness in the muscles surrounding the injection area can also result if too much BOTOX® Cosmetic is injected. However, should any adverse reaction occur following injection, whether it be within a day or a couple weeks afterward, please inform your physician.
