A Little History…
Yves-Gerard Illouz is credited as the physician who first developed modern liposuction in 1977. The technique used an instrument to tunnel underneath the skin, which was different from the fat removal methods that existed before. Previous methods were often riddled with problems, as skin and fat and were removed in target areas, resulting in a high amount of scarring and uneven contours.
Dr. Illouz’s first patient to undergo his method of liposuction was a woman with a lipoma. A lipoma is a benign tumor comprised mainly of fatty tissue. The procedure removed the lipoma successfully and did not leave much scarring nor excess hanging skin.
