Want to get rid of acne but don’t want to take harsh medications and topical creams that may harm the overall health of your skin? Those methods were once the only way to eliminate acne breakouts, but not anymore! Advancements in cosmetic technology have created a revolutionary new way to dramatically reduce or inhibit unsightly pimples, with far fewer side effects than other more traditional treatments. With little to no downtime, it’s no wonder that Acne Treatment with the StarLux® 500 Pulsed Light and Laser Platform is one of the most popular procedures at Toronto Cosmetic Clinic.

Length of Procedure
This depends on the number of areas targeted and the extent of correction. The patient consultant will give you an estimate during your initial consultation.

Anesthesia
A topical anesthesia in the form of numbing cream may be applied prior to the procedure to reduce discomfort.

The Acne Treatment Procedure
After an initial consultation with a medical professional, during which your skin and condition are assessed to ensure Acne Treatment is appropriate for you, your certified medical aesthetician will perform the procedure in a private room where the desired area is treated with intense pulsed light. After the session is over, you may resume with regular activities.

How Does It Work?
The target area is exposed to pulsed light at a specific wavelength emitted by the LuxV dual band handpiece which is attached to the StarLux® 500 Pulsed Light and Laser Platform. The energy is absorbed by the porphyrins of the bacteria that cause acne (known as Propionibacterium acnes or P. Acnes). Exposure to this type of laser energy has a negative impact, thereby inhibiting future breakouts and keeping them under control.

Side Effects
After the anesthesia wears off, there may be some tenderness in the area treated. Some redness may occur but is considered temporary. Because Acne Treatment is performed with intense pulsed light, it is best to protect the treated area from sun exposure to ensure proper recovery.

The device has been designed with several features to reduce the negative impact on the skin. As a result, many patients find that they experience few, and even no side effects except those that are desirable.

Risks
Like other procedures, there are risks related to Acne Treatment. This includes increased sensitivity to sun exposure, redness and tenderness. All are considered temporary.
