Juvederm® vs. Botox®

We get a lot of questions regarding the difference between Juvederm® and Botox®. Granted, there are many similarities between the two. For example, both are manufactured by American-based company Allergan Inc. and non-surgically eliminate or minimize the appearance of wrinkles.

The Difference

But did you know that Juvederm® treats wrinkles and creases in a different way? While Botox® relaxes the muscle which forms the wrinkle in the skin covering it, Juvederm® “fills out” the wrinkle without affecting the muscle in the treated area. Plus, it can even augment lips, something Botox® just can’t do. That’s why Juvederm® is classified as an Injectable Filler. Hyaluronic acid is the primary ingredient.

What’s Hyaluronic Acid?

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the human body. It assists in the hydration and volume in the skin, contributes to the proliferation and migration of cells and is essential in tissue repair. For this reason, a skin test is not required before treatment with Juvederm®.
