Cellulite Treatment - In the Past

May 8th, 2008

Women have been battling cellulite for years. While Endermologie is a preferred treatment for those unsightly dimples these days, this cosmetic innovation has only been around since the late 1970s, gaining international reputation a decade later.

Years before Endermologie, women in Europe dealt with cellulite by less technological means. They went to a masseuse to knead that cellulite away. The massage would entail a session of deep squeezing, prodding, rubbing and grinding with expert palms and fingers to break down the pockets of trapped toxins, fat and fluids that cellulite is comprised of. This stimulated blood flow to the area so that the body could gradually get rid of the cellulite by its own waste processes. Needless to say, a cellulite massage was quite intense and often left the treated area bruised and battered. But, according to reports, it did apparently work.

Endermologie basically works on the same premise, but is performed by a patented device. There may be some bruising and discomfort, but most likely not as much as a massage performed by a masseuse.

The Value of Vitamin E

May 7th, 2008

Vitamin E is another one of those vitamins we hear about all the time when it comes to our skin and health. The licensed medical aesthetician who performed your microdermabrasion or other skin rejuvenation procedure may even recommend skincare products that contain Vitamin E following your session.

Vitamin E is an antioxidant that is fat-soluble. Because it is fat-soluble, we require some type of fat for it to dissolve in the body. Vitamin E helps protect cells by creating a barrier on their membrane, thereby strengthening it against free radicals. It improves and preserves the skin’s elasticity, delaying the onset of wrinkles and creases as well as fights against UV damage.

Great sources of Vitamin E include vegetable oils, like sunflower and canola, nuts, and wholewheat grains (you’ll do your body a great service by ditching white bread and choosing wholewheat).

Liver Spots

May 6th, 2008

Liver spots are concentrations of melanin in the skin which can be removed by specific laser treatments. They are small and darker coloured than the rest of the skin and most often appear in areas where the skin is frequently exposed by the sun: the face, shoulders, and back of the hands.

Are liver spots, also known as age spots, caused by some malfunction of the liver? Are they an indication of a weak liver? Let’s dispel that old wives’ tale.

The answer is no.

Liver spots are not related to the health of your liver. They are caused by other factors such as aging, sun exposure and hormonal imbalances. Why do we call them liver spots, then? Well, doctors used to believe they were because of some malfunction of the liver, but this has since been proven to be untrue.

Juvederm Ultra vs Juvederm Ultra Plus

May 2nd, 2008

When it comes to injectable fillers, Juvederm is considered one of the most effective products on the market. It is extremely popular, requiring no prior skin test.

There are two types of Juvederm products: Ultra and Ultra Plus. Both have been designed for wrinkles, creases and folds, as well as to augment the lips. However, their difference lies in their strength. According to Allergan, the manufacturer, Juvederm Ultra achieves results that may last from 9 months to a year, while Ultra Plus can achieve results that last up to a year.

Consultation with an injectable fillers specialist will determine which product ideal for your situation.
