Permanent Creases in the Skin

reddresswomanWhen the cosmetic surgery industry talks about wrinkles and creases in the skin, there are several types that exist. It’s too simplistic to just say “wrinkle” or “crease”, since each looks different, develops in a specific area and is the result of unique causes. In December 2006, categories were defined in a report published by the International Journal of Cosmetic Science.

The report found four main types of wrinkles and creases. They are atrophic crinkling rhytids, permanent elastotic creases, dynamic expression lines, and gravitational folds. Translated in layman’s speak, they are fine parallel lines on the face, permanent lines that deepen over time, wrinkles caused by facial movement, and folds caused by gravitational pull.

So How Does That Help?

Determining the type of wrinkle you may have can help set you on the right course of treatment. The ideal solution for you may be the surgical route, such as a facelift, or nonsurgical, such as laser skin tightening.
