Silicone Implants and Health Canada
Today’s silicone implants, also known as cohesive gel implants, are much more durable than ones made in prior decades, with filling that does not “leak” in the event of rupture. They are safe, which is why Health Canada approved them for public use in the fall of 2006 for breast augmentation.
Since its approval, an expert advisory panel formed by Health Canada continues to monitor their safety and effectiveness to protect the public. Manufacturers of breast implants are required to submit a report on a yearly basis regarding the implants they produce, along with reports from healthcare professionals on their use.
Thus far, silicone implants are still perceived favourably by many physicians who perform breast augmentation because of their feel, which mimics natural breast tissue better than saline filled implants.
TCC’s Dr. Behnaz Yazdanfar has performed hundreds of breast augmentation procedures using cohesive gel implants. If you’re interested in seeing the results, simply visit our breast augmentation photo gallery!
