According to the Chinese government, about 1 million cosmetic surgical procedures are performed every year in the country. The figures are astounding, considering that the ban on surgery for aesthetic improvement was lifted as recently as 2001. The Chinese are shelling out billions of dollars each year to beautify themselves, particularly to undergo such popular procedures as double eyelid surgery and breast augmentation.
