The shopping malls aren’t the only places that are going to be busy this holiday season. Cosmetic surgical clinics across the city tend to get busier as people take advantage of the gift-giving spirit and the time off of work to treat themselves to a little self esteem boost, and it’s a trend that isn’t exclusive to Toronto. Even Italy’s Prime Minister and one of the country’s richest men, Silvio Berlusconi, took advantage of his holidays a few years ago to undergo some nipping and tucking himself.

“Given the possibilities of today’s cosmetic surgery, I think that those who can afford it have a duty to present themselves in the best possible way…it’s a form of respect,” Berlusconi told a year-end press conference.

He has admitted to receiving a hair transplant to overcome his balding and eye surgery to correct wrinkling.

“I am very happy to have subjected myself to such pain. I think this should be regarded as an example. I now feel 40 to 42 years old in all aspects of my life.”

At the time of this quote, Berlusconi was 67 years old. He is now 72.
