Dimensions of the Perfect Face

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

It was bound to happen. Researchers at the University of Toronto, led by Professor Kang Lee, have discovered the formula to create the “perfect face”.

While we all know that an attractive female face includes full lips, big eyes and a smaller nose, now there’s a formula. Perfection is about  the following measurements: the distance from the eyes to the mouth should be 36% of overall face length (which is measured from hairline to chin) and if you measure the distance between the pupils, it should be 46% of the width of the face (measured from ear to ear). This is for the average face only and hairstyles or makeup can be used to create the optical illusion of achieving these “perfect” measurements.

So who’s been blessed with perfection? Move over Angelina Jolie, Adriana Lima and Gisele Bundchen – it’s Shania Twain!

The study included students, who were asked to rate photographs of women’s faces. Photos of the same woman, but with different measurements for length and width altered by photoshop (not by cosmetic surgical procedures like facial implants and injectable fillers), were laid out for the students to be rated for attractiveness. Facial features, such as the nose or eyes, were not modified.

However, the study was only conducted on Caucasian (white) women and men, therefore it does not include a majority of the world’s population. And since it only targeted width and length, we think research still has to be done on the “perfect” size of lips, nose and other features.

Grainy Scrubs

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

Exfoliation is vital to remove that dirt suffocating the top layers of your skin. It helps remove dead skin cells and cleanse the pores.

However, if you’ve got particularly dry and sensitive skin, you may want to stay away from grainy scrubs that contain roughly ground particles of things like nutshells. The grains in these products, sold on the shelf of any drugstore, can actually create tiny cuts in the skin when you use them.

There are many products available that don’t have harsh grains. Look for exfoliation products that contain microbeads, such as VivierSkin’s Cream Facial Scrub or gentle glycolic acid based washes, which remove impurities without anything that “scrubs”.

All Natural Make Up Remover

The next time you run out of make up remover, try using a little olive oil instead. Extra virgin is a fast and relatively inexpensive way to get rid of any type of make up, including bronzer and waterproof mascara. There’s no need to use a lot of it – just soak a cotton ball or pad and gently wipe away, then follow with your regular skin care routine.

If you’ve got oily skin, this may still work. Many people with oily or combination skin have found that using high quality extra virgin olive oil to moisturize or cleanse actually improved their complexion.

Skin Lightening Creams

If you suffer from splotches and blotches of excess pigmentation, laser based treatments are one of the most effective ways to minimize and eliminate their appearance, resulting in a more even-toned complexion.

A viable alternative to laser skin resurfacing, photorejuvenation and other laser treatments is topically applied formulas designed to treat hyperpigmentation. These products feature ingredients specifically for the treatment of pigmentation irregularities. A popular product available at Toronto Cosmetic Clinic is SEEQUIN™ IDS™ 4*

SEEQUIN™ IDS™ 4* not only helps eliminate fine lines and wrinkles, it also  includes 4% Hydroquinone to gently lighten areas of hyperpigmentation in order to create a more uniform tone.  It’s ideal for age spots, sun spots and melasma.

A Comment About Latisse

Wednesday, November 4th, 2009

A visitor to our blog made a comment recently, and we thought it would be interesting to share with the rest of you who want to know about the eyelash lengthener, Latisse.

Hi,
Is there any update as to when Latisse will be available in Canada? I’ve tried ordering it online, only to get it rejected during Customs Check!!! Bummer. Can you please let me know when this product will be approved in Canada??? Thank you!

We’ve never tried ordering Latisse since it still hasn’t been approved by Health Canada. We know that it’s freely available in the US, even for purchase online, which is how this reader seems to have tried to get it. Unfortunately, the package was seized at Customs and never made it across the border.

Thanks to this reader for the heads up! If you’re a Canadian wishing to buy Latisse, it looks like you’ll just have to wait a little longer…

Please note that this comment was posted on our blog and cannot verify its validity. We trust that this comment is an honest account of what happened to this reader. If you think that this comment is incorrect, please let us know so that we may pass the information on to our readers.
