Doo Doo Facial

Thursday, July 10th, 2008

A day spa in New York City has introduced a new treatment to beautify the skin. Sure, it may sound boring…until you hear what they’re using.

The Geisha “Bird Poop” Facial is exactly what it sounds like - a facial mainly comprised of bird poop. Apparently, powdered nightingale droppings have long been used by geisha and kabuki actors in Japan to soften and brighten the complexion, as well as to remove makeup. It is believed that it is the enzymes in the droppings that makes it so effective.

But before you go scooping up some doo doo to slather on your face, it is important to note that the droppings used by the spa have been sanitized by UV exposure before being powderized and mixed with rice bran.

The Geisha Facial costs $180US for 50 minutes. Wonder if pigeon droppings have the same effect?

Average Age

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008

According to statistics compiled by the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, the average age of a person who has undergone a cosmetic surgical procedure is 42 years old. This is for either invasive procedures, like liposuction and blepharoplasty, or non-invasive procedures, like laser hair removal and microdermabrasion.

Apparently, within the last few years, this age has increased. It was 40 before.

Veins over Hair

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008

It looks like losing hair isn’t as bad as unsightly spider veins.

Males are choosing to remove the appearance of spider and varicose veins over replacing baldness, and cost may be a factor. While hair transplants have risen in price over the past few years, the price of treating veins has actually dropped.

Do you want to get rid of those ugly spider and varicose veins? Call us at 416-221-5554 for more information about laser vein removal.

Canine Liposuction

Canine liposuction. No, it isn’t some new type of liposuction technique. It’s liposuction…for your dog.

Countries such as Germany and Australia have been offering the cosmetic surgical procedure to our furry friends for years now. Although most of the recorded procedures have been performed on canines that had lyphomas (cancer of immune system cells) and fatty tumours, doctors do consider performing liposuction purely for those that are overweight.

Other cosmetic procedures that have been performed on dogs include those to improve and enhance the aesthetic appearance of the teeth and, interestingly, testicular implants.

The flailing economy south of the border has begun to take its toll on the cosmetic surgery industry. With a possible recession in sight, people have been cutting back on spending, and one of the first things to go to maintain a stringent budget is undergoing cosmetic surgery treatments.

Fortunately, the economy isn’t doing so bad up here in Canada, allowing many people who want to improve their aesthetic appearance to do so without qualm.

It’s official. Liposuction season is here!

With the hot days of summer approaching, Spring is one of the most popular times to prepare for the beach. Even though it’s still a little too cold to wear a bathing suit or those skimpy little outfits, more and more people are thinking about liposuction and undergoing the procedure to prepare their body for those hot days of summer . Doing so at this time of the year gives you a great head start on the recovery process.

Breast augmentation is another cosmetic surgical procedure that sees a spike in popularity around this time.
