Suntanning and Implants

Friday, December 18th, 2009

I’ve heard that suntanning is bad for breast implants. Is this true?

Not really. While you may experience your implants warming up and cooling down at a different rate than your body, they will not get damaged from regular suntanning nor will they “overheat”. The only thing we recommend is that your scars are covered with clothing and a good sunblock while tanning, since they can become darker and more visible, making your breast augmentation possibly more obvious.

Always listen to your physician’s advice, including when you can resume suntanning following surgery.

Welcome November!

Monday, November 2nd, 2009

With no stat holidays for the entire month in Ontario, endless gray skies, and colder temperatures, November looks like it’s going to be a tough one to get through. But don’t think of it that way!

Look at November as the time to get ready for December, when holiday parties and social get togethers abound. December is a popular time to schedule cosmetic surgical procedures, and this month is perfect to start making plans in preparation for scheduled procedures.

The success of any surgical procedure not only depends on the physician performing it, but also the patient. The patient should follow pre-operative instructions as outlined by their physician, as these are set to facilitate recovery. Some instructions may include the following:

1. Stop smoking.
2. Stop taking certain medications, such as aspirin.
3. You may need to take a couple of days off. Make the necessary arrangements so work performance doesn’t suffer.
4. Arrange post-operative care for yourself.

Complete instructions will be given to you by your physician and should be followed.

It may be a full month before your scheduled surgery. However, ample time will allow you to prepare adequately.

After Rhinoplasty

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009

Like any invasive procedure, rhinoplasty, or cosmetic nose surgery, also involves a period of recovery during which extra care should be taken to help the healing process go as smoothly as possible.

While recovery depends on the amount of correction done to the nose and the individual patient, it is typical that certain instructions outlined by your physician are followed:

  • Not touching or rubbing the nose.
  • Avoiding strenuous activity, such as vigorous exercise.
  • Avoiding sports or activities that involve bodily contact.
  • Sleeping on your back with your head slightly raised to ease swelling.
  • Cleaning the nose in a method outlined by your physician.

The recovery of every patient undergoing rhinoplasty cosmetic surgery at Toronto Cosmetic Clinic will be monitored by a physician in post-operative appointments.

After A Breast Lift

Friday, January 30th, 2009

A breast lift, also known as mastopexy, reclaims that “perkiness” lost over the years. While it doesn’t increase the volume of the breasts, it does rejuvenate the contour of the body.

If you’re thinking about undergoing mastopexy, expect the recovery period to take up to a month to 6 weeks. During this time, you’ll experience swelling and bruising which is generally at its worst in the first week following surgery. However, as the weeks pass, it will gradually subside as you heal.

Mastopexy achieves results that last for a long time. However factors that caused the sagging in the first place may reverse the results.

Recovering from a Tummy Tuck

A tummy tuck is one of the more invasive cosmetic surgical procedures available at Toronto Cosmetic Clinic. While patients typically see dramatic results from abdominoplasty, recovery may take longer than other treatments.

The exact length of recovery depends on the individual, with factors such as age, extent of corrections, type of abdominoplasty, general health and skin elasticity important considerations. However typically someone who has undergone tummy tuck surgery should expect to avoid any strenuous activity, including bending and lifting anything for several days. Walking at a leisurely pace is recommended to assist in recovery. Any stitches will be removed in a week or two following surgery. It will be necessary to refrain from exercise for several weeks, until you are safe to do so as recommended by your physician.

During the recovery period, you may notice that the outcome of surgery does not appear as you had hoped. Keep in mind that there will be some degree of swelling and bruising due to the nature of the procedure. This will subside gradually over the course of a few months to reveal the true results of your tummy tuck.

Need Help After Surgery?

Tuesday, March 18th, 2008

Part of preparing for any cosmetic surgical procedure at Toronto Cosmetic Clinic is arranging for someone to assist and take care of you in the days immediately following your surgery. This person does not have to be a medical professional – it just has to be someone that you can rely on to help you with activities such as showering,  changing your dressings, and bringing food.

If you’re considering undergoing a cosmetic surgical procedure, but don’t have someone to assist you in the couple of days following your surgery, let our patient consultant or physician know beforehand. We can arrange for someone to help you. You may even be able to stay in the recovery room at Toronto Cosmetic Clinic overnight if no alternative accommodation is available.
