Recovering from a Tummy Tuck

A tummy tuck is one of the more invasive cosmetic surgical procedures available at Toronto Cosmetic Clinic. While patients typically see dramatic results from abdominoplasty, recovery may take longer than other treatments.

The exact length of recovery depends on the individual, with factors such as age, extent of corrections, type of abdominoplasty, general health and skin elasticity important considerations. However typically someone who has undergone tummy tuck surgery should expect to avoid any strenuous activity, including bending and lifting anything for several days. Walking at a leisurely pace is recommended to assist in recovery. Any stitches will be removed in a week or two following surgery. It will be necessary to refrain from exercise for several weeks, until you are safe to do so as recommended by your cosmetic surgeon.

During the recovery period, you may notice that the outcome of surgery does not appear as you had hoped. Keep in mind that there will be some degree of swelling and bruising due to the nature of the procedure. This will subside gradually over the course of a few months to reveal the true results of your tummy tuck.

Need Help After Surgery?

Tuesday, March 18th, 2008

Part of preparing for any cosmetic surgical procedure at Toronto Cosmetic Clinic is arranging for someone to assist and take care of you in the days immediately following your surgery. This person does not have to be a medical professional - it just has to be someone that you can rely on to help you with activities such as showering,  changing your dressings, and bringing food.

If you’re considering undergoing a cosmetic surgical procedure, but don’t have someone to assist you in the couple of days following your surgery, let our patient consultant or cosmetic surgeon know beforehand. We can arrange for someone to help you. You may even be able to stay in the recovery room at Toronto Cosmetic Clinic overnight if no alternative accommodation is available.

Consent Forms

When you’ve decided to go ahead and undergo a surgical procedure after the initial consultation at TCC, you’ll be asked to fill out consent forms. These consent forms are procedure-specific, outlining details and instructions on the surgery itself as well as pre and post operative care. It is important that you take the time to go through each point thoroughly before signing off on it. If there is anything you odn’t understand, one of our helpful receptionists, the patient consultant, or a physician can explain and clarify the point for you.
Some of the things included in the consent forms are whether you were fully informed of the procedure you hope to undergo, authorization of the physician to perform the surgery and questions about your medical history. Completing the consent forms usually takes at least 15 minutes, as it is comprised of several pages.

You may think that it is troublesome and time consuming, but remember - a vital part of any surgical process is making sure you understand the procedure and are physically and mentally prepared for it. This is your body, and it’s absolutely imperative that you know what will be done to it, by whom, and what you can do to assist in proper preparation and recovery.

Bras for Implants

Just got bigger boobs? You need a new bra!

In the weeks following the breast augmentation procedure, it is highly recommended you not wear a bra with underwire. This may impede healing and create odd-looking depressions in the skin that could become permanent. It can even affect the positioning of the implants, so stay away from those things for at least a few months!

But after you’ve healed and are ready to go bra shopping, you’ll probably need more support than what you were accustomed to before. It’s imperative that you follow the same steps as Friday’s post, but choose something that accommodates the implants.

Some manufacturers provide bras that have been specially designed for women who have undergone breast enlargement. While they may be hard to find in Toronto, you may want to call the specialty bra shops in the city to see if they offer any. Often, these types of bra have cups that fit a rounder breast or dimensions that support the shapes of popular breast implants on the market today (round or teardrop). The shape of the underwire may also be in more of a perfect semi-circle. A popular bra specially designed for women with implants is the Le Mystere No. 9.

We’re also updating our liposuction photo gallery. Watch out for it in the weeks ahead!
