Who Invented Liposuction?

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

Did you know that a gynecologist and his son invented the liposuction procedure? It was two Italian physicians, Dr. Giorgio Fischer and his son of the same name, who are credited with inventing liposuction back in 1974. However, it was a few years later when liposuction was actually used purely for cosmetic enhancement.

Filling Saline Implants

Monday, April 21st, 2008

While cohesive gel implants are the most popular type of implants for breast augmentation, Toronto Cosmetic Clinic does offer saline implants as an alternative.

Saline implants are composed of a shell made of silicone elastomer. During the breast augmentation procedure, the shell is positioned in the breast then filled with a sterile solution to the desired volume. The salt content in this sterile solution is equivalent to the salt content in the natural fluids of the average body.

Acne Treatment

Friday, April 18th, 2008

Today is Friday, the last day of showcasing your questions on one of the new procedures at Toronto Cosmetic Clinic, Acne Treatment.

We round off the week with this question from Stephanie in Thornhill.

Pockmarks! I’ve got pockmarks all over my face from past acne breakouts and I can’t do anything about it. Can you help me?

Pockmarks are one of the most common aspects of acne scarring. Even though acne may no longer be present, these unsightly indentations can be just as bad for the complexion. Fortunately, fitted with a different handpiece, the same device that treats acne breakouts can also treat acne scarring. The StarLux® 500, fitted with the Lux1540™ Fractional Laser Handpiece, can treat pockmarks and other effects of acne scarring practically painlessly with little to no downtime.

Acne Treatment - Side Effects

Thursday, April 17th, 2008

We continue answering your questions about Acne Treatment this week with a question from Lisa in Oakville.

What are the side effects of getting acne treatment at Toronto Cosmetic Clinic

Acne treatment at TCC is performed by The StarLux® 500, a laser device from manufacturer Palomar. While the number and severity of the side effects from treatment are far less than those associated with creams, ointments and medications, there are some that should be expected.

After treatment, you may feel as if the treated area is mildly sunburned. There may also be some minor swelling. Both side effects typically last for up to a day. You can ease any discomfort experienced by applying an ice pack to the area.

In some cases, acne in the treated area may seem to get worse following a session. Not to worry - this will subside within a couple of weeks, after which a noticeable reduction in acne will become apparent.

How Many Sessions?

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008
I get really bad breakouts. How many sessions will I need to get rid of my acne?

The number of acne treatment sessions you require really depends on your overall health, skin type and the extent of your acne. We recommend anywhere from 5+ sessions over a period of a number of weeks for worse cases. At the time of your complimentary consultation and first session, both the patient consultant and medical aesthetician will tell you approximately how many treatments over what period of time is most suitable for you.

Just like other laser-based cosmetic treatments, results will appear gradually. After achieving the desirable results, you may also require “touch-ups”.

Acne Treatment

This week, we’ll be answering your questions about Acne Treatment at Toronto Cosmetic Clinic.

The first question of the week comes from a female in North York.

She asks:

I’ve tried everything for my acne, and nothing seems to work. Will acne treatment at Toronto Cosmetic Clinic actually do anything?

Getting rid of acne is difficult, but with advancements in technology and cosmetic surgery, it is possible to finally do something about those pimples. And we’re not just talking about one or two zits. We’re talking about serious breakouts that cover large areas of the face and other parts of the body.

Acne treatment at TCC works because it utilizes the power of laser and pulsed light. The StarLux® 500, the device used during the procedure, emits a blue spectrum of light which is preferentially absorbed by porphyrins and destroys them. Porphyrins are responsible for the metabolism of the bacteria that causes acne, Propionibacterium acnes (P Acne). By destroying the porphyrins, future breakouts of acne are controlled and gradually eliminated. Plus, treatment also reduces the discolouration and scarring that is often related to acne.

While any treatment cannot carry a 100% guarantee, clinical tests, extensive research and those who have undergone this procedure have all shown that The StarLux® 500 is extremely successful in achieving desirable results. We recommend you speak with our patient consultant in a complimentary consultation to determine whether the device is suitable for your situation.
