What is a Q-Switched Laser?

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

The MedLite® C6 laser device we use for the laser tattoo removal procedure is a “Q-Switched laser”.

So what’s that mean?

Well, the laser beam which is emitted by the MedLite® C6 can be delivered in pulses, which is what is meant by “Q-Switched”. These pulses of laser light are incredibly powerful.  A Q-Switched laser is beneficial for laser tattoo removal because it more effectively breaks up the dye of the tattoo into particles that can then be eliminated by the body. Pulsed lasers are also used for laser hair removal. At Toronto Cosmetic Clinic, we use a Q-Switched Nd:YAG laser.

How to Celebrate the New Year

Tuesday, February 19th, 2008

It was just last week that the Lunar New Year holidays were celebrated by the Chinese, Koreans and other members of East Asian countries. And how did many Koreans celebrate the New Year? According to the national newspaper, The Korea Times, many took the time off work to undergo cosmetic surgery.

Apparently, there was such a demand that cosmetic surgeons had to cut their own holidays short to answer to the number of people wanting to undergo cosmetic surgery.

One of the most popular cosmetic surgical procedures in Korea is eyelid surgery to create a fold in the upper eyelid. Also known as blepharoplasty, the creation of a “double” eyelid typically makes the eyes appear wider, and consequently, what is considered to be more attractive. Another popular procedure is rhinoplasty.

Many people undergo cosmetic surgical procedures over the holidays not only because they have time off, but also because they can have the procedures done secretly.

Got a Weak Chin?

No need to fret. You can get a more defined chin though the surgical placement of a facial implant by an experienced physician at Toronto Cosmetic Clinic.

Typically a chin implant is placed into the chin through an incision on the inside of the lower lip. Once the procedure is completed, there will be some swelling but the improvement is immediately apparent.

This procedure is actually relatively short. In fact, depending on the extent of correction, it can be as short as 20 minutes!

Making the chin more prominent can also affect the appearance of your nose, since it often creates an overall balance of facial contours.

Why do eyelids droop?

We all know that the aging process can take a heavy toll on our face, and the first place we see the signs of the passing years is in our eyes. Our eyelids begin to droop, creating folds that hide our lashes and can even hinder our ability to see.

Eyelids begin to droop because of the thinning and stretching of the skin, along with the weakening of the muscles around the eyes, known as the orbicularis muscles. To correct this, eyelid surgery can be performed. Also known as blepharoplasty, this cosmetic procedure is a great way to widen the eyes and rejuvenate that lost youthfulness.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

There’s nothing like the gift of self confidence.

When a woman doesn’t feel right because of what they perceive as a slight defect or imperfection, it can affect every moment of her day. And for a lot of women, it’s not even about the aesthetics. Enlarged labial lips can also cause discomfort and embarrassment. Labioplasty is a minimally invasive procedure performed on an outpatient basis and generally takes up to one hour. Even though it’s considered a relatively quick and safe surgical procedure, the results are often indescribably positive for female patients.

It may sound like a strange gift for Valentine’s Day, but considering that labioplasty can also improve sexual pleasure, it’s something that can bring the romance back into your relationship.

Weird Tip?

nose.jpg

I’ve got this weird looking bump on the tip of my nose. Can rhinoplasty help get rid of it?

Depending on what the bump is, rhinoplasty can definitely help get rid of it. In most cases, this cosmetic surgical procedure can fix the bump if its composed of cartilage or flesh. The bump will be removed or remolded so that it harmoniously blends in with the rest of your nose and face.

But first you’ll have to see our patient consultant who can assess the bump and make sure it’s something rhinoplasty can fix. During the consultation, make sure to discuss how you’d like to deal with the bump and perhaps bring a picture of a more desirable nose you’d like to have. While rhinoplasty starts from $6000, the patient consultant will give you a specific price for your situation.
