The Three Types of Scars

If you’ve ever been injured, have had invasive surgery, or broken your skin in any way, you most likely have a scar. Most of us think that there’s only one type of scar, and it’s just an ugly reminder of (usually) an unpleasant experience. However, technically speaking, there are actually different types of scars that are classified according to their features.

Scars that appear sunken into the skin are called atrophic. If they appear raised, then they are hypertrophic.

Keloid scars are also raised, but continue to expand over time. Keloids are in fact nonmalignant tumors.

If you would like to remove a scar, Toronto Cosmetic Clinic may be able to help. Some non-invasive cosmetic surgical techniques can reduce or eliminate their appearance. Contact TCC for more information.

A Little History…

Yves-Gerard Illouz is credited as the physician who first developed modern liposuction in 1977. The technique used an instrument to tunnel underneath the skin, which was different from the fat removal methods that existed before. Previous methods were often riddled with problems, as skin and fat and were removed in target areas, resulting in a high amount of scarring and uneven contours.

Dr. Illouz’s first patient to undergo his method of liposuction was a woman with a lipoma. A lipoma is a benign tumor comprised mainly of fatty tissue. The procedure removed the lipoma successfully and did not leave much scarring nor excess hanging skin.

Not Everything is Created Equal

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

As we all know, not everything is created equal. Which is why we shouldn’t be surprised when we look at our own body.

As a woman’s breasts develop, many find that one breast grows more than the other. It may be minor but still noticeable, or so much that the difference is a full cup size (making bra shopping very difficult).

The difference may not only be about size. It can be about the shape of the areola or the breasts overall.

But don’t feel so bad, ladies. Men can have the same dilemma when it comes to their own chest, as well as what’s “down there”. So, just because your breasts aren’t symmetrical, it doesn’t mean that you’re a freak. It’s really common and affects just about everyone, woman or man.

If you feel really uncomfortable about asymmetry, TCC may be able to help. Breast augmentation or a breast lift is designed to improve your body contour. It’s your choice whether you want to treat one breast or both.

Lipo for Britney

Monday, November 19th, 2007

So, it sounds like pop star Britney Spears has finally done what our patient consultant predicted - she’s gotten liposuction.

Media reports say that the 25 year old got Smartlipo in Nevada for her hips and buttocks. She spent a reported $12,000US at a Las Vegas cosmetic surgical clinic. This follows reports of another procedure she had done a little while ago to plump up her lips (apparently, she ran over a photographer’s foot while leaving the clinic).

Wouldn’t it have been cool if she got it done at Toronto Cosmetic Clinic?

Breast Implants #1 Surgery

Friday, November 16th, 2007

Breast augmentation surgery is currently the number one form of cosmetic surgery. But the reasoning surrounding this statistic is unclear. Why do women want big boobs so bad? All these doctors with different degrees from high falootin’ schools have well reasoned theories: big boobs = richer men. We want to look like Barbie. Breasts represent maternity and the mother’s bond to her baby. Do you really think that’s why someone goes from an A cup to a DD? And finally, the gutsiest of all, says it like it is. Marjorie Jolles, from CalState Fullerton says because “looking good means looking good to men.”

I don’t think it’s that hard to figure out. Bigger breasts give a woman an increased sense of self-confidence. And that self-confidence comes from the fact that she thinks she is more attractive. Plus she wants to be more attractive in order to attract more men. It’s a very simple formula. Self-confidence can help in other areas as well. But when it comes to pure physical looks – it’s generally meant for one thing. And one thing only. Sexual attraction.

This is just the author’s opinion, of course.

Sometimes price does make a difference….

At Toronto Cosmetic Clinic, each unit of BOTOX® is $12. While some may think it’s on the pricey side, there are many incidents where clinics have used a type of botulinum toxin that was not created for human use just for the sake of saving a few dollars.

In fact, if the product administered is not labelled BOTOX®, which is a trademark of the pharmaceutical company Allergan, then it isn’t BOTOX®. Beware!

BOTOX® injections at TCC are administered by a medical professional who is actually a certified BOTOX® trainer for other medical professionals in the US and Canada.
