| Eye Makeup After Cosmetic Eyelid Surgery
One of the biggest concerns following cosmetic eyelid surgery is how you look. In the days following surgery, you should expect the area of your eyes to be swollen and bruised. This is normal since surgery is a traumatic experience for the body, and may remain long after any sutures have been removed.
While this is temporary and takes some time to disappear, some may find their appearance unsettling and want to hide it. While swelling tends to be difficult to camouflage, you may hide the discolouration accompanied by bruising with makeup.
Please refer to your surgeon's postoperative instructions to see when the application of makeup is allowed, or speak to them directly for more details. In most cases, it is only advisable after the incisions have totally healed, since doing it before that time could prove dangerous (it may lead to infection or worse). This may be a week or more after the date of surgery.
Hiding Bruises Resulting from Blepharoplasty with Makeup
Applying a light skin cream to the lids can facilitate application.
Choose a liquid concealer that can offset the colour of the bruise. For example, if the bruise is bluish/purplish, then choose something that's more yellow. If it's reddish, then something greener is more effective. Apply to both eyes for symmetry. Less is better, since you want natural-looking results.
Next, gently apply a base coat that's your natural skin tone.
Lastly, apply some eye shadow (preferably with yellow or green undertones to provide further camouflage). Don't overdo the eye shadow.
Application and removal of eye makeup should be done very gently and carefully. Because the area is still healing, you should avoid causing further damage by yanking or pulling the eyelids. Also, it's best to choose products that don't have ingredients that will irritate your skin. Some people find mineral based cosmetics to be less irritating.
Remember: Proper recovery may be hindered by makeup application so speaking to your surgeon before you do anything is best. You may find that puting on a pair of sunglasses instead is a better form of camouflage! |
