Getting Ready For Breast Augmentation Surgery

Breast augmentation surgery, like most cosmetic surgical procedures, is invasive.

Performed on an outpatient basis, it is important that you prepare for the procedure by following the specific instructions outlined by your physician at Toronto Cosmetic Clinic during consultation. Doing so will ensure that your mental and physical state is in the best condition for breast augmentation in Toronto.

You may need to alter your lifestyle or diet, and limit or eliminate specific substances for consumption. For example, your surgeon will most likely recommend avoiding alcohol, and nicotine. While consumption of alcohol should be avoided entirely a minimum of one to two weeks before breast augmentation surgery, it is highly recommended that nicotine consumption be eliminated well before. Nicotine constricts the blood vessels, hindering the blood flow in your body. And since oxygen, carried by the blood, is required to promote healing, your body may not recuperate properly or quickly enough following the surgery. Infection may result. Therefore, any nicotine, even in patch form, can adversely affect your body's healing capabilities.

Aspirin®, ibuprofen, and Vitamin E act as anticoagulants. At a minimum of two weeks prior to your breast augmentation procedure, patients should avoid taking any medication that contains these ingredients so that blood can clot properly, reducing blood loss.

Medications, such as Vivactil, Etrafon, Tofranil, and Sinequan may alter the properties of the anesthesia used during breast augmentation surgery. Always inform your surgeon of all the medications, supplements, or vitamins that you normally take. Supplements to avoid include gingko bilboa, St. John's Wort, and Omega fats.

A healthy lifestyle and diet, including a good exercise regimen and drinking plenty of water, a few weeks before will help your body deal with the changes resulting from breast augmentation.

Being fully prepared for breast augmentation at Toronto Cosmetic Clinic includes arranging a comfortable environment in your home while you recuperate. Your meals and snacks, preferably softer and easier to digest foods, should be ready to eat. Place all pain relievers, medication, or supplements prescribed by your surgeon in an easily accessible place. Transportation to and from the facility should be arranged, as well as someone that can take care of you while you rest.

It is important to note that your breast augmentation surgery will be cancelled if you are pregnant. A blood test is done to determine your general health which includes a pregnancy test as well.

Breast augmentation can be the most rewarding change to your body, but the procedure itself can be unnerving. Properly preparing for it will help your body heal faster, so that you can get out there sooner to show off the results!
