The breast augmentation procedure is carried out under general or local anesthesia, and takes about one to two hours to complete. An implant (prosthesis) may be placed under the breast tissue or under the muscle after an incision is made, either in the area of the chest where the breast meets it, or the dark skin surrounding the nipple (also known as the areola). In either case, the surgeon will make sure that any incision made results in the most inconspicuous scars as possible, and work performed will be done through that incision. Depending on our surgeon's recommendation and your anatomy, the insertion of the implant, as well as the positioning of it, will differ according to each patient.

The skin and breast tissue is lifted to create a pocket directly behind or underneath your chest wall muscle (the pectoral muscle). Then, the breast implant is inserted in a position centered beneath your nipples, creating a natural appearance.

Once that is complete, the incision is stitched closed. Tape may also be used to provide additional support. A gauze bandage may be applied over your breasts to facilitate healing.

Following The Breast Augmentation Procedure at Toronto Cosmetic Clinic

Recovery time depends on your physical condition, however it is typical that you be able to return to work within a few days depending on how strenuous the work.

Patients often feel extra sensitivity in the area of the breasts following the surgical breast augmentation procedure for about two to three weeks. Avoid direct physical contact to minimize discomfort during this time. After about three to four weeks following surgery, soreness will gradually disappear. At this point, physical contact with the breasts is fine.

Following breast augmentation, women in the appropriate age group should still schedule mammograms on a routine basis.

Those considering breast augmentation at Toronto Cosmetic Clinic should have realistic goals. Their decision should be discussed with one of our surgeons or qualified representatives at our clinic. Like any cosmetic surgical procedure, good candidates are those in good physical and psychological condition.
