Our Mission
Rhinoplasty to Correct the Aging Nose

Rhinoplasty is generally performed on individuals who are concerned about the unbalanced appearance of their nose in relation to the rest of their face. A knobby tip, flared nostrils, wide bridge and other aesthetic problems may be addressed to achieve a more proportionate nose that harmoniously blends with other facial features. However, cosmetic nose job surgery may also correct a nose that has succumbed to the unappealing signs of aging.

The nose is not impervious to the signs of aging. Rhinoplasty for the aging nose, also known as Rejuvenation Rhinoplasty, targets particular characteristics that are unique. With every passing year, the structure can change due to several factors, but most commonly it is the deterioration of cartilage and thickening of the skin in the lower portion of the nose.

The Deterioration of Cartilage

A problem not unique to the nose, the deterioration of cartilage in the entire body occurs naturally with age. Cartilage weakens and becomes more susceptible to damage in the latter years, which is why such health related problems, like arthritis, can occur.

Along with bone and fibro fatty tissue, the structure of the nose is formed by cartilage (particularly in the lower portion). In fact, the nasal septum, the wall that separates the nose to form the two nostrils, is made primarily of cartilage. Aging causes the cartilage in the nose to stretch out, making the nose appear droopier at the tip and longer overall. This can also affect the shape of the nostrils, making them press inwards and possibly interfering with breathing ability, as well as the bridge, possibly causing a dorsal hump to gradually emerge.

Rhinoplasty at Toronto Cosmetic Clinic can help correct the aesthetic consequences of cartilage deterioration from aging by targeting this problem and gently “lifting” the tip of the nose to a more desirable projection. Doing so can restore the shape of the nostrils (as well as possibly improve breathing ability), eliminate or minimize a dorsal hump, and create a more youthful appearing nose which compliments the rest of the face.
