Toronto Cosmetic Clinic utilizes the StarLux® 500 Laser and Pulsed Light Platform for acne and acne scarring treatment. The handheld attachment, the LuxV dual band handpiece, emits a gentle but powerful pulsed light that is directed at the unwanted acne. The light waves are preferentially absorbed by the bacteria responsible for acne, Propionibacterium acnes, which negatively impacts its metabolism. This allows to inhibit future breakouts.
The pulsed light also facilitates the production of collagen in the skin to initiate the healing process.
Tell me more about acne scarring treatment.
Acne scarring is treated with the Lux1540™ Fractional Laser Handpiece of the StarLux® 500 Laser and Pulsed Light Platform. This attachment emits laser light which passes through the top layers of skin to target the lower layers. By doing so, it stimulates the production of collagen so that the skin can naturally repair scarring resulting from acne as well as improve skin tone. Pockmarks and discolourations can be targeted.
What's so good about this treatment?
Traditionally, acne and acne scarring removal was treated with harsh chemicals or medications that often affected the healthy surrounding skin as well. With laser acne treatment at Toronto Cosmetic Clinic, very few side effects, if any, result. Many patients experience no downtime. The procedure itself is also virtually painless and can achieve results faster than other methods.
What areas can be treated?
Any area where acne appears on the body can be treated. However, the face is generally the most common area treated.
Who can be treated?
This treatment is designed for men and women who want to get rid of acne and acne scars. If you are a minor, you will require parental/guardian consent.
An initial consultation, during which your skin and health will be assessed, will determine whether this treatment is suitable for you or if an alternative is more appropriate.
Does skin type matter?
Skin type may affect the recovery process, but generally all skin types can be treated with laser acne treatment and acne scarring removal, no matter what colour or texture.
Your skin will be assessed during your initial consultation to ensure this treatment is suitable for you. In some cases, those with a history of abnormal scarring may not achieve ideal results.
How many sessions will I need?
This really depends on the severity of your acne, your skin type and general health. A series of treatments is often required to achieve desirable results. You'll get a better estimate at the time of your initial consultation with our patient consultant.
What are the side effects?
All treatments have their own related side effects. In the case of acne and acne scarring treatment, rare side effects include pigment changes, bruising, and blistering. These are considered temporary.
You may also experience redness and sensitivity in the treated area.
When will I see results?
Results are not immediate. You will notice a gradual reduction in acne breakouts in the time following a session. For acne scarring, results will appear gradually as well while the body naturally recovers. Factors such as your general health and skin type will affect results.
Some skin care products may be recommended by your medical aesthetician to help with recovery and expedite the appearance of results.
