Abdominoplasty, also known as a tummy tuck, is an elective surgical procedure for the abdominal area. Clients who choose to undergo a tummy tuck procedure at Toronto Cosmetic Clinic are often in relatively good shape, both mentally and physically. However, since fat deposits and loose skin in the abdominal area sometimes cannot be eliminated, they require more assistance to flatten the area - more than what exercise and a healthy diet can achieve.
A tummy tuck is ideal for those experiencing laxity of the abdomen resulting in stretching and bulging skin, particularly for people advancing in their years or for women who have had multiple pregnancies.
The Tummy Tuck Procedure at Toronto Cosmetic Clinic
For a very general list of things to do to adequately prepare your body for surgery, please visit Preparing for Cosmetic Surgery. This list, however, is not exhaustive.
The tummy tuck procedure is performed on an outpatient basis, or may involve an overnight stay.
The procedure will take place in the safe environment of our physician directed surgical centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, under local or general anesthesia. The type of anesthesia used will depend on the extent of correction required. Prior to the actual tummy tuck surgery, the area to be removed from the abdominal area is carefully marked by your cosmetic physician . An incision is made at the bikini line and the indicated excess skin is pulled down and inward. This is then removed with the underlying fatty tissue, and the muscles are tightened as required.
The last step is to carefully redrape the remaining skin and close the incision with several layers of suture. The length of the operation will depend on the amount of skin and fat to be removed, but normally takes anywhere from two to three hours.
Arrangements should be made for transportation home following a tummy tuck, as you will most likely not be in a condition to drive or take public transit. You may also want to arrange to have some assistance in the day or two (if required) after the procedure, while you recover. During this time, any swelling and pain experienced will typically be at its worst. Your doctor may prescribe medication to alleviate these symptoms. You will wear a supportive garment around the abdomen while you heal to reduce swelling which resembles a girdle.
Most people return to work within two to three weeks, depending on how strenuous their job is and their recovery progress.
For the few weeks following, swelling and bruising will gradually subside. Detailed instructions on diet, care, and vitamin or medicinal intake will be outlined by your physician and given to you before you undergo the procedure. Your physician will also be available to provide assistance while you recover.
Usually, the results of a tummy tuck at Toronto Cosmetic Clinic will appear within 2 months. |
