Deciding On A Partial or Complete Tummy Tuck at TCC

At Toronto Cosmetic Clinic, there are two options when getting a tummy tuck. You can opt for a partial abdominoplasty or a complete abdominoplasty. There are many circumstances which tend to dictate which one you may decide to get. There are advantages and disadvantages with either option.

Getting A Complete Tummy Tuck

A complete tummy tuck is an invasive cosmetic surgical procedure which may require the use of a general anesthetic. A full incision is made around the navel area, generally from hipbone to hipbone.

After the procedure, even if there is no overnight stay involved, you will need assistance with transportation when leaving the clinic. Generally speaking, a complete tummy tuck is ideal for individuals who are within 20 to 30 percent of their desired weight. As such, the desired effect is greater than what would be achieved with a partial tummy tuck.

It should be kept in mind though that weight loss is not the overriding objective of abdominoplasty, whether partial or complete.

Getting A Partial Tummy Tuck

Unlike the complete one, a partial abdominoplasty requires far less invasive surgery. An incision, usually shorter than the one required for a full tummy tuck, is made in only the lower part of the abdomen. In certain cases, this cosmetic surgical procedure can be done on an outpatient basis. For this reason, usually the time required for a full recovery is comparatively less. However, as is the case with a complete tummy tuck, it's still recommended that one plan ahead regarding transportation home from the clinic.

The effects of a partial tummy tuck are not as comparatively dramatic as a complete one. This procedure is ideal for individuals who are within about 10 percent of their desired weight and when the targeted deposits of fat are, for the most part, limited to the area below the navel.

Regardless of what kind of tummy tuck you decide on, it's still best to consult a patient consultant or physician prior to undergoing the procedure. They will need to determine if a tummy tuck is best for you. There may be other options available, and in the event more correction is desired, it is possible to have another procedure done in conjunction with a tummy tuck (such as liposuction or other cosmetic procedure designed for fat removal).
